How to Make Scoby for Kombucha Tea

Today, I’m going to share with you a short, step-by-step video tutorial that provides detailed instructions to help you make scoby for your homemade kombucha tea.

What IS Scoby?

If you don’t know what scoby is, don’t worry, I’ll explain! “Scoby” is actually an acronym: Symbiotic Culture Of Bacteria and Yeast. Scoby is what transforms your sweet tea into the tangy, fizzy, healthy drink we call kombucha. Scoby adds yeast and good bacteria to help elevate the health benefits of your kombucha tea, while also sealing off the fermenting kombucha from air. This helps keep it free from undesirable bacterias during the fermenting process.

You’ll need the following supplies before you can follow along with this video:

  1. Kombucha: Have your store bought or home made kombucha nearby! I highly recommend you try making your own kombucha from scratch to maximize the health benefits of this super drink. Check out this video blog post for my homemade kombucha recipe: Make Kombucha Tea at Home
  2. A glass jar
  3. A sheet of paper towel or a coffee filter
  4. An elastic band; and
  5. Time: It’ll take about 2-weeks before your scoby is ready to use

Stay strong and stay healthy!
Kombucha tea is known to help strengthen the immune system, which makes it the perfect drink to keep on hand as we move into flu season and the holidays. Regular exercise and a balanced, healthy diet are also important ways to keep your body strong against colds and flus that are so common this time of year.
